The Chinese Scientists, Engineers, and Professionals Association
(CSEPA) of Oregon was established February 1972. This is a non-profit association consisting of scientists,
engineers, professionals, and students of mainly Chinese ancestry and
culture, but is also open to citizens of any ethnicity or cultural background.
The main purpose and goal of CSEPA is to promote professional development
and fellowship, to promote and provide mutual benefit through the exchange
of technical information among its members and to other societies, and
to promote the education and development of future professionals. CSEPA
has officers selected from among the members who are in good standing,
and by vote of the members. Officers are: President (two-year term),
Secretary, Treasurer, and at least seven (7) Board of Directors.
We meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month, except for the summer months
of July and August, at a Chinese restaurant (selected by various members)
in Portland or the greater Portland area. Each month a guest speaker
is invited to speak to the group; speakers are from a vast array of professions and social interests,
from acupuncture and massage therapy to information about schools and
social programs that some members support in China.
In July, we have our annual Community Service event, which in
the past has been volunteering at food banks and rescue missions. In
August we have a picnic for all the members at one of the nearby campgrounds.
In December we have our annual Holiday Celebration with live music and
dancing with give-away games and prizes.
